Elastomeric paints, as its name implies have elastic properties that help bridge gaps and hairline cracks prevalent on concrete surfaces. Using it for GI roof sheets may not necessarily guarantee the same performance since overlaps are considered cold-joints. Sealants usually work best for this application.

 

Heat absorption is significantly reduced so long as you use light colors. The darker shades tend to absorb much of the UV light while white and light pastel shades reflect it. Elastomeric paints are not purposed to insulate. Ceramics paints would do this better. However, the latter is not available with us as it belongs to the industrial coatings category. Our focus is on architectural coatings. Boysen® Roofgard™ is the best option we can offer for tropical settings.

Dear Mr Dyoco:
 
I am hearing lately about elastomeric paints. Waterproofing, elastic paint, and can be used on g.i. roofs that reflects sun's heat by much percentage. Is your roofgard different from these elastomeric paints or do you have other products that resembles or is an elastomeric paint that can be used as roofing paint? Do you recommend using elastomeric paints on galvanized roofs?

The service life of paints is usually pegged at least 3 to 5 years depending on exposure to its environs. This is not to say that after such period, your paints will peel off or drastically deteriorate. In most cases, the coating will serve you well over a long period of time. Aesthetics, however, will depend on your acceptance and discretion overtime.

The details you found in our main website: www.boysen.com.ph under the “Choose Your Paint” icon explains exactly how to finish your paint job. The site should also help you with estimating your actual paint requirements by clicking on the “Paint Calculator” at the bottom of the page.

 

Furthermore, kindly allow me to answer your questions point-by-point, as follows:

1.     “So far what I know is to get it steel brushed”

Correct! This should remove loose rust.

2.     “apply a rust converter”

Only if there’s persistent rust that cannot be removed with just wire brushing. Take note of the 15-minute treatment time limit. Wash off residue with water and dry surface immediately.

3.     “paint it with epoxy primer”

Not necessarily with epoxy primer. You can do equally well with the regular metal primers (i.e., Red Oxide, Rust Off, and Primeguard) which are cheaper unless you happen to live by the seaside or in a relatively industrial environment.

4.     “then top coat it with roofguard”

That’s right! At least two coats. The product is intentionally spelled as “Roofgard” though.

Good Day!
 
I would like to inquire about your recommendation on repainting an old galvanized roof that was painted but already faded and now rusted. i browsed on your site about the preparation and top coating of metal roofs. I would like to know your abc's on it so i won't get wronged or missed an application. so far what i know is to get it steel brushed, apply a rust converter, paint it with epoxy primer then top coat it with roofguard. if you have a better or added opinion about it,  will gladly appreciate it.
